Wendy Kanable – Founder of Blue Halo Fly Company

Blue Halo Fly Company was born from a lifelong passion for the water. Wendy Kanable grew up in the mountains of western Massachusetts, just steps from the Appalachian Trail, where her love for fishing first took root. As a kid, she spent her days exploring trout streams, digging worms from the backyard, and pedaling her bike to any fishable water she could find—long before the term blue-lining ever entered the fly-fishing vocabulary.

Fifteen years later, she picked up her first fly rod—and everything changed. Evenings were spent on the Deerfield River below the Fife Brook Dam, chasing trout until the last light faded. Along the way, she dove deep into every aspect of the sport: studying entomology, learning hatches, tying flies, and devouring anything she could read about trout behavior and successful fly-fishing techniques.

Her passion eventually carried her across the Rockies and beyond. Today, she has fished in more than 20 states—freshwater and saltwater alike—and internationally in Patagonia, Panama, and Germany.

What began as a personal obsession has grown into a commitment to the greater fly-tying and fly-fishing community. Now based in Raleigh, North Carolina, Wendy founded Blue Halo Fly Company to offer high-quality fly-tying materials and tools that anglers can trust. Every product is shaped by years on the water, a dedication to craftsmanship, and a lifelong respect for the pursuit of fish.

Blue Halo Fly Company exists for anglers who love the process, the craft, and the waters that shaped us.

In addition to retail sales, Blue Halo Fly Company purchases entire and partial fly tying collections and estates, working directly with tiers and families.
